Chinese spies planted chips in tech products headed to the U.S. According to a frightening new report from Bloomberg, Chinese spies planted tiny chips in tech products headed for America to steal information from dozens of U.S. companies. Ali Velshi is joined by the reporter who broke the story, Michael Riley, to discuss the 30 American companies that were targeted by this spyware.Oct. 4, 2018  https://www.msnbc.com/velshi-ruhle/watch/chinese-spies-planted-chips-in-tech-products-headed-to-the-u-s-1336868931897

Apple and Amazon are among US companies and agencies who have had data stolen by Chinese spies, claims Bloomberg. The data had been siphoned off via tiny chips inserted on server circuit boards made by a company called Super Micro Computer, reported the news agency. The servers had been compromised during manufacturing and the chips activated once they were up and running, it said. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-45747983

Yanjun Xu, a senior officer with China’s Ministry of State Security, is accused of seeking to steal trade secrets from leading defense aviation firms, top Justice Department officials said.  https://www.scmp.com/news/china/politics/article/2167973/chinese-spy-charged-stealing-us-aviation-secrets-and-extradited

The threat of espionage taking place under the cover of routine activities appears to be a particular concern. As many as 30 Chinese academics and policy experts have had their U.S. visas canceled or reviewed in the past year, the New York Times reported recently. The relatively open approach adopted toward Chinese businessmen and academics may now be ending. That’s a mistake — not because China isn’t trying to spy on the U.S., but precisely because it is.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/we-should-let-china-spy-on-us/2019/04/20/985dc970-63d1-11e9-bf24-db4b9fb62aa2_story.html

Strange espionage events with a Chinese flavor are piling up at Mar-A-Lago, President Trump’s home-away-from-home. Awkward questions are now being raised about what’s really going on, including: are the White House’s real spy problems with Beijing rather than Moscow? https://spectator.us/mar-a-lago-chinese-spies/

The F.B.I. has mounted a counterintelligence operation that aims to bar Chinese academics from the United States if they are suspected of having links to Chinese intelligence agencies. As many as 30 Chinese professors in the social sciences, heads of academic institutes, and experts who help explain government policies have had their visas to the United States canceled in the past year, or put on administrative review, according to Chinese academics and their American counterparts. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/14/world/asia/china-academics-fbi-visa-bans.html

China has trained spies here with the responsibility to spot, assess, develop, recruit and handle individuals with placement and access in key areas of government and industry,” noted Andrew Lewis, President of private intelligence firm The Ulysses Group, emphasizing that “university-based networks are responsible for quite a bit of the information and intellectual property China collects from the U.S.” https://www.intelli.news/united-states/fox-news/2019/04/22/what-chinese-spies-want-from-americans/
